An experienced international business lawyer, Mr. Fitzmaurice has more than thirty-five years’ experience in the practice of law and more than fifteen years as a commercial and international mediator and arbitrator; addressing the resolution of numerous transactional disputes involving manufacturing and distribution arrangements, buying and selling of businesses and real estate disputes in Latin America and the United States.

Mr. Fitzmaurice has extensive experience with commercial and business litigation; having worked on all aspects of the reorganization of businesses, including the conduct of numerous bankruptcy Chapter 11 proceedings leading to successful plans of reorganization. Mr. Fitzmaurice also has substantial experience with the formation of as well as the dissolution of corporate and partnership joint venture entities, including the sale of automobile dealerships, dealership bankruptcy, and general dealership representation. Mr. Fitzmaurice has handled successful civil disputes, including real estate disputes, breach of contract, securities, fiduciary duty, negligence, commission disputes, insurance, advertising, and professional liability claims.

Luis F. Almaraz, received his law degree (Licenciatura en Derecho) from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, Mexico where he graduated in 2000. His practice in Mexico includes, inter alia, business formation, gambling permits & compliance under Mexico’s most recent Federal Gaming and Raffles Law, (Ley Federal de Juegos y Sorteos) and Federal Labor Law. Mr. Almaraz obtained an LL.M. (Master’s degree) from California Western School of Law in 2003. Over the past years Mr. Almaraz has worked as a Foreign Legal Advisor with Fitzmaurice & Demergian and has counseled companies of all sizes with their formation, Mexico’s employment compliance, U.S./Mexico real estate transactions and cross-border events.

Mr. Almaraz is registered as a Foreign Legal Consultant before the Office of Admissions of the California Bar Association. In addition being a real estate industry enthusiast, Mr. Almaraz became a licensed real estate broker in California and joined Del IF Real Estate where he has successfully secured real estate listings within the County of San Diego with value in excess of several million dollars.

Jacquelyn Forbes, Esq.

Jacquelyn A. Forbes received her juris doctor in 2009 from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, located in San Diego, California. Admitted to the State Bar of California in 2010, Ms. Forbes joined Fitzmaurice & Demergian in 2011. She has experience in business litigation, complex contractual disputes, employment litigation, as well as adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court. She has been involved in submitting Motions For Relief From Automatic Stay in the United States Bankruptcy Court in the Southern and Eastern Districts of California, as well as various motions and discovery planning related to adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court.

Ms. Forbes has handled successful civil disputes, including real estate disputes, breach of contract, fiduciary duty, negligence, commission disputes, insurance, and professional liability claims. She is also experienced in drafting trusts, trust amendments and administrating trust estates after the death of a settlor. In addition, her work as a mediator has made her adept at assessing creative settlement possibilities.
